Airhouse Transforms an Old Warehouse into a Brilliant Family Home in Japan
Can you believe that this lofty, modern home used to be an old warehouse? Located in Gifu prefecture, the House in Yoro by Airhouse Design Office
was left as an old commercial building on the outside, but revamped
with a white and bright interior. The new space offers an open feel with
a focus on lowering energy consumption.
Airhouse Design Office uses efficient, simple and cost-effective
solutions that give existing structures a brand new purpose. One example
is The House in Yoro, an open Japanesefamily home
in a converted warehouse. To maximize the big space, the architects
built a cubic structure that hides private rooms (toilets and the master
bedroom), leaving the kids’ room high at the top.
In contrast with the large main room, the private rooms have been painted purple and mustard.
The kitchen is a major focal point of family life, and has been
designed with custom-made furniture and plenty of storage to keep the
house nice and tidy. With an aim of making the most of the original
building while keeping down energy needs, walls, ceiling and floors have
been insulated keeping the home warm at heart.
